Friday, 12th September - Buffalo to Cody (186 miles)

Today we continued heading west and, in contrast to yesterday where we hit temperatures of up to 94F near Devil's Tower, today we saw lows of 54F and even drove through some snow!

Before we left Buffalo we went down Main Street to visit the Jim Gatchell Memorial Museum that is crammed with information, photographs and artifacts from the days of the wild West - a couple of hours very well spent:

We also wandered down to view the outside of the Occidental Hotel that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places:

We headed out of Buffalo north on I90 to Sheridan and Ranchester (passing though a snow shower on the way) before picking up Highway 14 west that meanders through the spectacular Bighorn National Forest reaching an elevation of over 9,000 feet (Ben Nevis is less than half that). Another fabulous scenic byway:

We arrived in Cody late afternoon and checked in to the quirky old timer Chamberlin Inn:

We ended the day with dinner in Irma's Grill that is in the very hotel built by Buffalo Bill:
