Friday, 19th September - Salt Lake City (277 miles)
Our last full day in the USA on this road trip We drove approximately 125 miles due west along I80 to the little town of Wendover and specifically the Bonneville Salt Flats Raceway:
Mile after mile after mile of brilliant white salt flats, ideal for land speed record attempts. Unfortunately, apart from the lines marked on the salt there is not a great deal to see which is a shame as while we were there a number of people had also come to view the "holy ground". No matter, we drove down the "track", actually not quite as flat as it seems, and then popped into the local gas station where they were making the most of selling souvenirs:
We then headed back to Herriman in South Salt Lake City to eat at the Garage Grill, an eaterie dedicated to displaying classic racing cars and assorted memorablia:
In the evening we strolled around the town square/city centre:
Tomorrow we head for home!
Thank you to Barbara Corbett for inspiring us to take the trip. Many thanks to Duncan and Nicola Harwood at Complete North America for organising the entire trip and to our travelling companions Steve and Barbara Corbett who, along with Suse, were fabulous company and took the vast majority of the pictures featured in the blog. Thank you 🙏
3 flights, 10,000 flying miles, 2,300 driving miles, 5 states, 9 hotels, 16 nights and too many sights, sounds and smells to mention!
And lots and lots of smiles 😁
