Saturday, 13th September - Cody to Yellowstone (100 miles)

Today we headed even further west across Wyoming to the raison d'etre of our holiday, Yellowstone National Park.

However before we left Cody we visited the Buffalo Bill Center of the West - another spectacularly curated museum celebrating the life and work of William Cody a.k.a. Buffalo Bill as well separate exhibitions focusing on American Indian history, art, weaponry and natural history. We concentrated our time in the Buffalo Bill section - what an amazing character - and the American Indian history (a sad and shameful reflection on the European settlers):

Chris entered a raffle to win a classic Chevrolet Corvette 🤞🤞🤞

More pictures featuring the Buffalo Bill Center of the West may appear later once we return to civilisation with better Internet!

We then continued our journey towards Yellowstone on the Buffalo Bill Scenic Byway through the Buffalo Bill State Park and the Shoshone Canyon and National Forest (again, pictures to follow).

We arrived at the east entrance to Yellowstone National Park mid afternoon and made our way around the loop road towards the Canyon Village, our home for the next three nights.

En route we spotted our first grizzly bear:

We also saw a small herd of bison/buffalo:

We stopped to view and soak in the atmosphere at Mud Volcano a collection of hot bubbling, sulphurous springs:

A most welcome dinner was had in Canyon Village followed by (the inevitable) gift shop visits ...... Chris found a great book, a companion to the Death in the Grand Canyon:

  1. Ha ha, don't diss the gift shops, they are an important part of any US road trip! Terrified by the thought that there are grizzlies roaming around in the area (although hopefully not hungry as it is the end of summer). Hope you enjoy Yellowstone (give Yogi and Boo-Boo my best).
